    Wild Life is a loose, inventive early statement from Wings, showing Paul McCartney’s new band shedding the polish of his previous fame for something more immediate and human. Issued in 1971, the album was recorded quickly with a deliberately rough edge and an informal feel that divided critics at the time, yet helped establish Wings as a genuine group rather than a solo extension. Built around McCartney’s melodic instinct and Linda McCartney’s presence, it moves between muscular rock, gentle pop and rambling improvisation, with songs such as Mumbo, Wild Life and Dear Friend reflecting its uneven but distinctive charm. Over time, it has come to be appreciated as an important step in the band’s development.
