Released in 1984, the album marked her first major solo breakthrough after leaving the Ike & Tina Turner era behind, with a contemporary sound shaped by high-profile producers including John Carter, Rupert Hine, Martyn Ware and Terry Britten. Anchored by songs such as What’s Love Got to Do with It, Better Be Good to Me and the title track, it became a global hit, won multiple Grammy Awards and re-established Turner as one of rock and pop’s most commanding voices.
