Tin Machine is an LP by Tin Machine from 1989 released on the Capitol Records, EMI USA label.
About this album
Tin Machine’s debut marked David Bowie’s decisive shift back into band dynamics, trading polish for jagged, riff-driven rock. Formed with guitarist Reeves Gabrels and the Sales brothers, the project gave Bowie a harder edge and a less self-conscious way to write, while leaving room for collective interplay rather than solo star turns. Produced by Tim Palmer and recorded in late 1988, the album set out a muscular pop-rock sound that divided opinion on release but helped clear the ground for Bowie’s 1990s reinvention. Its mix of biting originals and the stark reading of Bob Dylan’s Working Class Hero shows a frontman testing new ground.
