Fisherman's Blues is an LP by The Waterboys from 1988 released on the Chrysalis, Ensign label.
About this album
Fisherman's Blues is The Waterboys’ great stylistic turning point, where Mike Scott led the group away from the stark post-punk grandeur of earlier work and into a richer folk-rock sound. Released in 1988, the album was shaped by sessions in Ireland and London and drew on traditional music, Americana and the looseness of a live-in-the-room band. Its title track, along with songs such as And a Bang on the Ear and Strange Boat, helped define the record’s warm, searching character. Widely regarded as one of the band’s signature albums, it remains a landmark of late-1980s roots rock.
