    Life's Too Good announced The Sugarcubes as one of the most distinctive new bands of the late 1980s. Their 1988 debut fused indie rock, leftfield pop and post-punk bite, driven by Björk’s startlingly playful vocals and a taste for abrupt melodic hooks. Recorded with a raw, wiry edge, it turned songs like Birthday and Motorcrash into anarchic calling cards and helped bring Icelandic alternative music to a wider international audience. The album’s oddball humour, melodic punch and scrappy energy made it an influential debut that still feels gloriously unclassifiable.
