Rank is a sharp, rewarding live document from The Smiths, capturing the band near their peak in 1986 and issued in 1988 after Morrissey's decision to leave the group. Recorded at the National Ballroom in Kilburn, London, and produced by Grant Showbiz, it turns their studio precision into something rawer and more immediate without losing the wit or melodic bite that defined them. The set draws on key songs from The Queen Is Dead era, including 'The Queen Is Dead', 'Bigmouth Strikes Again' and 'There Is a Light That Never Goes Out' on some editions, showing how fully the band had translated indie-pop cool into a major live force. It remains an important posthumous statement from one of British guitar music's most influential groups.
