About this album
The Flying Lizards’ self-titled debut is a sharp, surreal statement of post-punk pop deconstruction. Released in 1980, the album turned cover versions and original material into something strange, witty and deliberately anti-glossy, using detached vocals, fragmented rhythms and low-fi electronics to unsettle familiar song forms. Best known for its minimalist, off-kilter take on “Money”, the record helped define the group’s cult reputation and made them one of the more distinctive acts to emerge from the late-1970s leftfield scene. Its mix of irony, experimentation and hooky unease still sounds fresh and uncompromising.
