Morrison Hotel is The Doors’ hard-edged return to basics, replacing the uneven experiments of their previous releases with a tougher blues-rock attack. Issued in 1970, the album is anchored by the swaggering Roadhouse Blues and the brooding Peace Frog, with Jim Morrison’s weary delivery matched by Robby Krieger’s sharp guitar work, Ray Manzarek’s keyboards and John Densmore’s propulsive drumming. Recorded after a period of tension and reorientation, it restored some of the raw energy that first made the band notorious while keeping their psychedelic identity intact. Widely regarded as one of their strongest later albums, it remains a key statement in the Doors catalogue.
