Electric is The Cult’s hard-rock breakthrough, the album that pushed the band away from gothic post-punk towards a leaner, louder and more direct attack. Released in 1987 and produced by Rick Rubin, it refashioned their sound around blunt riffs, pounding rhythms and Ian Astbury’s commanding vocals, giving the record a stripped-back force that made it hugely influential. Songs such as Love Removal Machine and Wild Flower became defining tracks, helping the album reach a much wider audience and cement The Cult’s reputation as one of the era’s most distinctive British rock acts.
