Talking Book is Stevie Wonder’s breakthrough masterpiece, marking the moment his early-1970s run became fully self-defined. Released in 1972, the album moved him into a richer, more experimental blend of soul, funk and keyboard-led songwriting, with Wonder taking on a greater creative role across the music. The record’s centrepiece, Superstition, became one of his signature songs, while You Are the Sunshine of My Life helped broaden his reach as a pop and soul hit. Widely regarded as one of his greatest albums, Talking Book helped set the standard for his classic period and for modern soul’s inventive, personal approach.
