Guitar Town is Steve Earle’s breakthrough debut, a sharp, hard-edged country record that helped bridge honky-tonk grit and rock swagger. Released in 1986 and produced by Emory Gordy Jr., it announced Earle as one of the key voices of the neo-traditional country movement, with crisp storytelling and a restless working-class perspective. The title track became his signature song, while the album’s blend of barroom energy, social detail and melodic directness gave it lasting influence well beyond country circles. Widely regarded as one of the essential albums of 1980s country, it helped set the stage for the Americana revival that followed.
