Stephen Mccraven – Wooley the Newt

Stephen McCraven's "Wooley The Newt" was his first album under his own name and was released in 1979 on Marion Brown's own Sweet Earth label (original copies are rare and sell for around 500 dollars). Working with Stephen and the Carvery, we have remastered the audio and restored the original artwork.

Stephen is a masterful drummer and composer and has worked with Archie Shepp for many years. He has also played and recorded with numerous other musicians including Marion Brown, Mal Waldron, Reggie Wokman and Stanley Cowell to name but a few. Stephen's son is the talented drummer and composer Makaya McCraven.
