About this album
A Night On The Town is one of Rod Stewart’s most successful and finely balanced solo albums, pairing pop-rock swagger with a sharper sense of narrative and emotion. Released in 1976, it followed the huge breakthrough of Atlantic Crossing and confirmed Stewart as a major crossover star. The set includes the hit “Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright)”, the Fotheringay cover “The First Cut Is the Deepest” and the seven-minute “The Killing of Georgie”, which gave the album uncommon dramatic weight. With its mix of romantic ballads, rootsy covers and assured mainstream polish, the record helped define Stewart’s mid-1970s peak and remains one of his most recognisable works.
