About this album
The Works shows Queen sharpening their stadium scale with tighter songs, brighter hooks and a more radio-ready sound. Released in 1984, the album came after the synth-heavy experiment of Hot Space and helped reassert the band's hard-rock swagger without abandoning pop ambition. Produced by Queen and Reinhold Mack, it pairs muscular riffs with polished keyboards and some of Freddie Mercury's most immediate melodies. Radio Ga Ga became one of Queen's signature hits, while I Want to Break Free and Hammer to Fall helped make the album a major commercial success and an important reset in the band's catalogue.
