A Night at the Opera is Queen’s most ambitious and best-known album, a flamboyant blend of hard rock, pop melody, art rock and prog-inspired experiment. Released in 1975, it marked a turning point in the band’s rise, with lavish multi-tracked harmonies and dramatic shifts in style that pushed mainstream rock into stranger, grander territory. Produced by Roy Thomas Baker with the band, the album pairs theatrical excess with sharp songwriting on tracks such as Death on Two Legs, You’re My Best Friend and the monumental Bohemian Rhapsody. Its huge success helped define Queen’s identity and secured its place as one of rock’s most celebrated albums.
