A Momentary Lapse of Reason marked Pink Floyd’s return after Roger Waters’ departure, restoring the band’s grand scale under David Gilmour’s leadership. Released in 1987, the album leaned into polished art rock and AOR, with extensive studio layering and production that gave it a contemporary sheen while retaining Floyd’s widescreen atmosphere. Learning to Fly became the best-known single, while tracks such as On the Turning Away and Sorrow helped reassert the group’s gift for melody, mood and long-form dynamics. A commercial success, the album signalled that Pink Floyd could still command major audiences in a new era.
