Peter Gabriel is a landmark solo debut that announced Peter Gabriel as a distinctive writer outside Genesis. Released in 1977, the album blended art-rock ambition with leaner pop songcraft, and its best-known single, Solsbury Hill, became an enduring statement of independence and reinvention. Produced by Bob Ezrin, the record balances sharp hooks, uneasy energy and lyrical oddness across songs such as Moribund the Burgermeister and Here Comes the Flood. It helped establish Gabriel’s solo identity and set the course for a career defined by experimentation, intelligence and restless stylistic change.
