Ram is Paul and Linda McCartney’s sharpest and most beguiling post-Beatles statement. Released in 1971, it trades the grandeur of his former band for crisp pop craft, sly satire and a loose, home-made intimacy that divided critics at the time but has since become a major cult favourite. With Linda’s presence woven through the album and McCartney’s ear for melody undimmed, songs such as Too Many People and Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey combine hook-filled arrangement ideas with pointed humour and melodic invention. Its blend of domestic charm, wit and experimentation helped make Ram one of the defining solo-era McCartney records.
