    Time Fades Away is one of Neil Young’s most uncompromising albums, turning a difficult moment into a stark live document. Issued in 1973, it followed the huge success of Harvest and captured Young on tour with the Stray Gators in a set shaped by weariness, tension and blunt emotional honesty. Built around hard-edged performances of songs such as the title track, Journey Through the Past and Don’t Be Denied, the album pushed his country-rock into rougher, more abrasive territory. Long viewed as a key part of his early 1970s run, it became a cult favourite for its unvarnished sound and refusal to smooth over the strain behind the music.
