    Kind of Blue is Miles Davis’s defining masterpiece and one of the most influential jazz albums ever made. Recorded in 1959 with a superb sextet including John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, it replaced hard-bop complexity with modal structures that opened up space, mood and improvisation. The result is a record of rare poise and melodic clarity, from the cool sway of So What to the reflective Blue in Green and the expansive All Blues. Its enduring reputation rests on both its musical innovation and its lasting impact on modern jazz.
