About this album
Cargo is Men At Work’s sharpest and most confident album, refining the Australian band’s mix of pop-rock melody, new wave edge and dry humour. Following the huge success of Business as Usual, the 1983 record showed the group could do more than repeat a breakthrough hit, with Colin Hay’s writing balancing character sketches, social observation and singalong hooks. Produced by Peter McIan, the album yielded enduring singles such as Dr. Heckyll & Mr. Jive, Overkill and It’s a Mistake, helping cement Men At Work’s place in early-1980s mainstream rock. Its crisp songwriting and polished production made it one of the era’s defining commercial rock albums.
