About this album
Local Hero is one of Mark Knopfler’s most distinctive works, turning a film soundtrack into a vivid, self-contained statement. Written for Bill Forsyth’s 1983 comedy-drama, it blends folk rock, jazz and Celtic colouring with Knopfler’s supple guitar writing, moving from the atmospheric opening of The Rocks And The Water to the enduring title theme Going Home. The score helped establish Knopfler beyond Dire Straits, showing his gift for melody, mood and storytelling across instrumental settings. Widely regarded as one of his finest solo-era projects, it remains a landmark soundtrack from the 1980s.
