About this album
K.I.D.S. is the breakout mixtape that introduced Mac Miller as a major new voice in early-2010s hip hop. Released in 2010, it helped establish his easy-going pop rap style by pairing bright, sample-driven production with boom bap rhythm, jazzy textures and a youthful, self-assured delivery. Songs such as Nikes On My Feet, Knock Knock and Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza became early calling cards, showing the charisma and melodic instinct that would carry his career beyond the internet rap scene. It remains one of the key releases in Mac Miller’s rise from Pittsburgh newcomer to mainstream artist.
