    Hybrid Theory is the explosive debut that made Linkin Park one of the defining rock acts of the 2000s. Released in 2000, it fused nu metal, alternative rock, hip hop and electronic elements into a sharply focused sound built on heavy riffs, turntables and the contrast between Chester Bennington’s anguished melodies and Mike Shinoda’s rap delivery. Produced by Don Gilmore, the album turned songs such as In the End, Crawling and One Step Closer into major international hits and helped push hybrid, genre-blending rock into the mainstream. Its huge commercial success and lasting popularity made it a touchstone of early-2000s alternative music.
