    USA Union is a strong, adventurous John Mayall album that pushes his blues-rock sound towards a broader, more reflective form. Issued in 1970, it paired Mayall with an American line-up that included guitarist Harvey Mandel, bassist Larry Taylor and drummer Don “Sugarcane” Harris, giving the record a tougher, more electric edge. The album mixes biting social commentary with road-worn blues and folk-rock touches, from the environmental concern of Nature’s Disappearing to the restless energy of Night Flyer. It shows Mayall using the blues as a flexible frame for contemporary themes rather than a fixed style, and remains one of his most distinctive early-70s statements.
