    One World is John Martyn at his most adventurous, bringing folk songwriting into contact with jazz, dub and supple studio experimentation. Released in 1977, the album marked a bold step beyond his earlier acoustic work, with Martin producing a sound that is loose, immersive and quietly radical. The title track and “Big Muff” show his gift for melodic drift and rhythmic tension, while “Small Hours” became one of his most admired late-period pieces. Frequently cited as a key record in his catalogue, One World helped broaden the possibilities for singer-songwriters in the post-1970s era.
