Imagine is John Lennon’s defining solo statement, sharpening his post-Beatles identity into a set of direct, melodic and politically charged songs. Released in 1971, it followed John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and paired personal reflection with sharper public commentary, from the serene title track to the caustic How Do You Sleep? and the plea of Jealous Guy. Co-produced by Lennon, Yoko Ono and Phil Spector, the album balances intimate confession, piano-led balladry and hard-edged rock, making it one of the key documents of Lennon’s solo career and a cornerstone of early-1970s singer-songwriter rock.
