  • Between spring 1957 and winter 1958 John Coltrane developed musically in big steps - and during this time the recording of "Lush Life" took place. In 1957 he worked for six months with Thelonious Monk and this collaboration had greatly contributed to Coltrane's progress. "Lush Life" contains his first recordings as a leader, here he plays for the first time with a trio without piano and his first extended interpretation of a ballad - the title-giving "Lush Life" by Billy Strayhorn.

The tenor saxophonist pianist Red Garland, trumpeter Donald Byrd, bassists Earl May and Paul Chambers as well as percussionists Louis Hayes and Art Taylor are at the side of the "lush life". Coltrane shows all his finesse in dealing with the delicately complex melodies.

The Hybrid Mono SACD appears in Mini LP cover in a series of 50 re-releases from the legendary prestige label. 25 mono and 25 stereo recordings are planned. The new mastering was done by Kevin Gray in his Cohearent Audio Studios.
