Body and Soul finds Joe Jackson stretching pop into a sharper, more adventurous blend of jazz, Latin rhythm and new wave sophistication. Recorded in 1984, the album builds on his restless early-80s run with a warmer, horn-led sound and more intricate arrangements, while keeping the melodic punch that made him one of Britain’s most distinctive songwriters. “You Can’t Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want)” became his best-known single, and songs like “The Verdict” and “Cha Cha Loco” underline the record’s mix of bite, style and musical range. It remains one of Jackson’s most admired albums.
