Mad Dogs & Englishmen is the ferocious live document that turned Joe Cocker into a major rock force. Recorded in 1970 and built around his famed tour with Leon Russell, the album captured a huge ensemble pushing blues rock, soul and gospel into a sweeping, unruly performance. Cocker’s rasping, emotionally driven voice gives familiar songs such as Feelin’ Alright and The Letter real urgency, while the concert setting adds grit, drama and spontaneity. Widely regarded as one of his defining releases, it also became a landmark of the era’s expansive live rock sound and a showcase for Cocker’s volcanic stage presence.
