    Head Hunters is Herbie Hancock’s landmark jazz-funk statement, and one of the most influential fusion albums of the 1970s. Released in 1973, it found Hancock turning from post-bop complexity towards deep, muscular grooves, with electric keyboards and funk rhythms driving the music without sacrificing improvisational invention. The album’s extended versions of “Chameleon” and “Watermelon Man” helped make jazz more accessible to rock and soul audiences, while its sound shaped generations of fusion, funk and hip-hop musicians. A commercial breakthrough as well as an artistic one, it remains a defining record in Hancock’s catalogue and a touchstone for crossover jazz.
