Space Ritual is Hawkwind at their most ambitious and unmistakable, turning hard-driving rock into a full-scale cosmic performance. Issued in 1973, this live double album captured the band’s first-class space-rock assault at a moment when they were refining the sound that made them a cult force in British rock. Across long, propulsive versions of key pieces such as Born To Go and Brainstorm, Hawkwind combined motorik momentum, electronic textures and sci-fi imagery into something heavier and stranger than conventional psychedelia. The result became one of the defining documents of space rock and a touchstone for later alternative and heavy bands.
