Appetite For Destruction is the breakthrough that made Guns N’ Roses one of hard rock’s biggest bands. Released in 1987, the album matched streetwise danger with hook-heavy songwriting, turning the grime of Los Angeles club culture into a mainstream force. Driven by Slash’s sharp guitar work, Axl Rose’s volatile vocals and the band’s heavy, bluesy attack, it produced enduring staples such as Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City and Sweet Child O’ Mine. Its mix of hard rock, heavy metal and punk-edged attitude helped revive guitar-driven rock at the end of the decade, and its huge commercial success made it one of the defining albums of its era.
