The Free Story is a concise, career-spanning overview of Free’s hard-edged blues rock and the sound that made them one of British rock’s key early-1970s acts. Issued in 1973, the compilation gathers material from the band’s brief but influential run, moving from the raw drive of early cuts such as I’m a Mover and Fire and Water to the radio breakthrough of All Right Now. Free’s lean playing, Paul Rodgers’ commanding vocal and Paul Kossoff’s expressive guitar helped define the classic rock template without losing its blues roots.
