    Fairground Attraction’s debut album blends folk-rock warmth, pop immediacy and a light jazz touch into a distinctive late-1980s statement. Fronted by Eddi Reader’s expressive voice and driven by Mark Nevin’s uncluttered songwriting, The First Of A Million Kisses turned the band’s acoustic leanings and continental colour into mainstream success. The single Perfect became a major international hit and helped propel the album’s profile, while songs such as Find My Love and A Smile In A Whisper show the group’s gift for graceful hooks and easy poise. Issued in 1988, it remains the band’s defining release and one of the era’s most memorable British pop debuts.
