Paid In Full is a landmark debut that helped redefine golden-age hip hop. Released in 1987, Eric B. & Rakim’s first album paired Rakim’s cool, highly rhythmic delivery with Eric B.’s sharp sampling and turntable-led production, setting a new standard for MC technique and beat construction. Songs such as I Ain’t No Joke, I Know You Got Soul and Paid In Full became touchstones for the era, with the title track’s influence especially far-reaching. Its blend of technical skill, confidence and stripped-back force made it one of the most important rap albums of the 1980s.
