Time is a sharply conceived sci-fi concept album that finds Electric Light Orchestra turning glossy pop into a futuristic narrative. Released in 1981, it marked a more electronic phase for Jeff Lynne’s band, blending symphonic rock textures with synth-led arrangements and polished hooks. Songs such as Twilight, Ticket to the Moon and Hold On Tight helped define the record’s emotional range, balancing nostalgia, romance and technological unease. Built around Lynne’s melodic instincts and studio control, the album became one of ELO’s most distinctive late-period statements and a key example of early-1980s pop-rock futurism.
