Kissing To Be Clever turned Culture Club into an international pop force and established Boy George as one of the era’s most distinctive frontmen. Released in 1982, the album fused glossy synth-pop with reggae and reggae-pop touches, giving the band a bright, approachable sound that crossed UK chart pop with club culture and Caribbean rhythms. Produced by Steve Levine, it introduced the singles that made their name, including Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and I’ll Tumble 4 Ya. The record’s mix of style, emotional directness and radio-ready hooks helped define early-1980s pop and set up the group’s rapid rise.
