Chicago XI is an LP by Chicago from 1977 released on the CBS label.
About this album
Chicago XI finds the band tightening its brass-led pop-rock formula while keeping the jazz-rock ambitions that defined their 1970s peak. Issued in 1977, the album followed a run of major commercial successes and featured the hit single Baby, What a Big Surprise, which helped keep Chicago firmly in mainstream rotation. Elsewhere, songs such as Take Me Back to Chicago and the title track mix melodic polish with heavier ensemble playing, showing how the group could balance radio-friendly songwriting, blues rock drive and extended arrangement work. It stands as a strong late-’70s statement from one of America’s most successful crossover rock bands.
