Tapestry is Carole King’s defining masterpiece and one of the key singer-songwriter albums of the 1970s. Released in 1971 and produced by Lou Adler, it turned King from behind-the-scenes hitmaker into a major artist in her own right, with warm piano-led arrangements and plainspoken, deeply memorable songs. I Feel the Earth Move, It’s Too Late, You’ve Got a Friend and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman helped make the album a commercial and cultural touchstone, while its emotional directness influenced generations of pop and rock songwriters.
