About this album
Nebraska is Bruce Springsteen’s stark breakthrough, stripping rock down to voice, guitar and haunted storytelling. Built from home-recorded demos made after The River sessions, the 1982 album rejected the E Street Band’s anthemic sweep in favour of close-up character studies and dread-soaked American folklore. Songs such as Atlantic City, Highway Patrolman and State Trooper gave Springsteen some of his most enduring writing, balancing criminality, faith, family and economic desperation. Its raw sound and unflinching empathy made it one of his most revered records, and a landmark in acoustic rock for showing how minimal production could carry enormous emotional weight.
