Seven finds Bob Seger honing the tough, no-frills rock sound that made his early catalogue so enduring. Issued in 1974, the album followed his first run of records and showed a Detroit songwriter working with leaner arrangements, louder guitars and a stronger sense of momentum. Get Out of Denver became one of the set’s best-known songs and helped underline Seger’s gift for plainspoken hooks and working-class attitude. The album sits at an important point in his pre-Silver Bullet Band years, when he was building the hard rock foundation that would later carry him to wider mainstream success.
