Recorded in 1979 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and produced by Jerry Wexler with Barry Beckett, the album pairs Dylan’s hard-edged lyrics with a polished gospel, soul and R&B backdrop. Gotta Serve Somebody became a major hit and won the Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male, while songs such as Slow Train and I Believe in You underline the record’s mix of conviction, tension and melodic force.
