Black Sabbath Vol 4 is an LP by Black Sabbath from 1972 released on the Vertigo label.
About this album
Vol. 4 is Black Sabbath’s fourth album and one of the key records in heavy metal’s early development. Released in 1972, it pushed the band beyond the brutal riffing of their first two albums, mixing crushing tracks such as Supernaut and Snowblind with quieter, more unusual moments like Changes and Laguna Sunrise. Recorded during a famously drug-fuelled period and produced by the band with Patrick Meehan, the album showed how Sabbath could broaden their sound without losing their dark, ominous identity. Its mix of heaviness, melody and texture has made it one of the group’s most influential releases.
