Love It to Death is the album that turned Alice Cooper from cult curiosity into a breakthrough hard rock force. Released in 1971, it refined the band’s blend of garage grit, psychedelic weirdness and theatrical menace, with “I’m Eighteen” becoming the signature statement of adolescent alienation. Produced by Bob Ezrin, the record sharpened the group’s sound without softening its bite, giving tracks like “Ballad of Dwight Fry” and “Black Juju” an unnerving dramatic charge. Widely seen as a turning point in Cooper’s rise, it helped define shock rock and set the template for the outlaw glamour of his later career.
