Have a vinyl record collection you’d like to sell? Whether it’s a few boxes from the shed or a lifelong collection you’ve carefully built over decades, we’d love to hear from you. Dutch Vinyl buys records in and around Melbourne and Brisbane, and we travel across Victoria, Queensland and Australia-wide for the right large, valuable and rare collections.
How it works
-
Tell us about your collection
Send us a quick message, email, or give us a call with a rough idea of how many records you have, what genres are included, and a few key artists.
-
We review and arrange an appraisal
Depending on the size and value of the collection, we’ll either ask you to bring it into our office, drop it at our shop, or we’ll arrange a home visit for larger or more valuable collections.
-
We make a fair, transparent offer
Our team has years of experience with second-hand vinyl. We assess condition, pressing, label, demand and rarity so we can make a fair offer that works for both of us.
-
Get paid quickly
Once we agree on a price, we pay you on the spot via cash or bank transfer, and take care of all the heavy lifting.
Who we buy records from
- Collectors downsizing or changing focus
- People selling inherited or estate vinyl collections
- DJs and musicians moving on gear and records
- Families helping parents or grandparents clear space
- Anyone with a pile of records who wants an honest, no-pressure offer
What we’re looking for
We’re particularly interested in collections that include some or all of the following:
- 1960s–1990s rock, alternative & punk
- Jazz, soul & funk, blues
- Punk, hardcore, metal
- Electronic, house, techno, experimental
- Global / world music, reggae, dub, afrobeat
- Modern reissues, audiophile pressings and rarities
We are more selective with:
- Damaged or scratched records
- Common easy listening and budget box sets
- Cheaper classical titles (we focus on more desirable labels and recordings)
- 78rpm records (we generally do not buy these)
How we price collections (and why we’re transparent)
Nobody likes walking away from a sale wondering if they’ve just been ripped off. We get that. So it’s worth explaining how vinyl pricing actually works in a record store.
Online you’ll often see very high asking prices for certain records. That doesn’t always mean they sell for that amount – or sell at all. A big part of our job is knowing what really moves, what sits for months, and what realistically won’t sell.
When a record store buys a whole collection, we’re taking on all of it: the rare and in-demand titles, the solid mid-range records and the slow movers. Only a portion will sell quickly. The rest might take a long time to find the right buyer, and some will never sell.
We also have to factor in the time and work involved – cleaning, grading, researching, photographing, pricing, listing online, putting stock out and storing it until it sells. That’s what we do for a living, and we’re set up to sit on stock for months or even years if needed.
Because of all this, when we buy vinyl individually we typically pay around 20–50% of our expected selling price in cash. As a general rule, we’ll pay a higher percentage for more expensive, sought-after titles, and a lower percentage for very common or cheaper records.
Record collections big or small can be worth selling, and the weirder corners of a collection are often where the most interesting value lives. Record buyers are always chasing the classics – but there’s also a strong community of people hunting for the obscure titles you might not expect anyone to want.
Where we buy vinyl collections
Most of our buying is in and around Melbourne and Brisbane. For the right large, valuable or rare collections, we travel across Victoria, Queensland and elsewhere in Australia.
Tell us about your collection
When you get in touch, it helps if you can include:
- Rough number of records (for example: “about 200 LPs and 100 singles”)
- Main genres (e.g. blues, jazz, prog, reggae, metal, classical, electronic)
- A few key artists (for example: Beatles, Miles Davis, Black Sabbath, Kraftwerk)
- When they were bought (for example: mostly 1960s–1980s, plus some recent reissues)
- Your location and whether you’re happy to bring them in or prefer a home visit
You can also include a link to a Discogs collection, spreadsheet or a few photos of the shelves or boxes – anything that gives us a feel for what you have.
