  • Suicidal Tendencies' debut album is considered by critics to be one of the most influential punk rock albums of all time and has inspired a countless number of influential musicians. Suicidal Tendencies has also been cited as an influence or favorite bands by all of the "big four" of thrash metal (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax) as well as California punk bands like The Offspring and NOFX

Red vinyl with original lyric sheet. in 1982, Suicidal Tendencies formed in Venice, California, and had a loyal audience among skaters and surfers. Establishing themselves in the Los Angeles punk scene, the group released their self-titled debut on Frontier Records with songs like "Institutionalized," "Fascist Pig" and "Suicide's an Alternative."

Suicidal Tendencies became the best-selling American punk album of all time and established the band's long career. "Institutionalized" was quoted in many other songs, most notably the quote "all I wanted was a Pepsi."

It is quoted in the Sage Francis song "Slow Down Gandhi", Limp Bizkit quote it in the song "Stuck", the lines "All I wanted was a Pepsi" are also quoted at the end of the Cypress Hill song "How I Could Just Kill a Man", and Body Count recorded a cover version of "Institutionalized", with new lyrics by singer Ice-T, called "Institutionalized 2014" Suicidal Tendencies became the chameleons of aggressive rock 'n' roll. Starting with their debut album on Frontier Records in 1983, the band evolved from the punk rock genre to heavy metal/thrash

During this evolution, singer, founder and leader Mike Muir spread his own message with wit and wisdom to anyone who would listen. After the video for "Institutionalized" became the first hardcore video to air on MTV, the song gained further notoriety in 1984 through the soundtrack to the cult film "Repo Man". The original album remains a perennial punk rock bestseller due to its wide appeal and catchy melodies.
