The Cars were an American rock band formed in 1976 in Boston, Massachusetts. The band consisted of singer and rhythm guitarist Ric Ocasek, bassist and singer Benjamin Orr, lead guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson.

The Cars released their self-titled debut album in 1978 and it quickly became a commercial success, reaching number 18 on the Billboard 200 and selling over 6 million copies in the US alone. Their second album, Candy-O, released in 1979, reached number three on the Billboard 200 and also achieved multi-platinum success. The band's third album, Shake It Up, released in 1981, spawned their biggest hit single, "Shake It Up," which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Cars continued to release successful albums throughout the 1980s, including Heartbeat City (1984), which featured the hit singles "Drive," "You Might Think" and "Magic." The band's last album, Door to Door, was released in 1987 and featured the hit single "You Are the Girl."

Some of The Cars' standout albums include their debut album The Cars (1978), Candy-O (1979), Shake It Up (1981), and Heartbeat City (1984). Some of their most popular songs include "Just What I Needed," "My Best Friend's Girl," "You Might Think," "Drive," and "Tonight She Comes."
