Suzanne Vega is an American singer-songwriter, best known for her folk-inspired music and her unique, highly literate lyrics. She began her career in the mid-1980s and has released nine studio albums to date.
Her debut album, Suzanne Vega, was released in 1985 and contained the hits "Marlene on the Wall" and "Left of Center". Her second album, Solitude Standing, was released in 1987 and featured the singles "Luka" and "Tom's Diner". The album was certified platinum in the US and earned Vega her first Grammy nomination.
Her third album, Days of Open Hand, was released in 1990 and contained the single "Book of Dreams". Her fourth album, 99.9FΒ°, was released in 1992 and contained the single "Blood Makes Noise". Her fifth album, Nine Objects of Desire, was released in 1996 and contained the single "Caramel".
Her sixth album, Songs in Red and Gray, was released in 2001 and contained the single "Penitent". Her seventh album, Beauty & Crime, was released in 2007 and contained the singles "Frank and Ava" and "Zephyr and I". Her eighth album, Tales from the Realm of the Queen of Pentacles, was released in 2014 and contained the single "Don't Uncork What You Can't Contain".
An interesting fact about Suzanne Vega is that she was the first major artist to release music in the MP3 format.
