Sonny Clark Vinyl Records
Sonny Clark was an American jazz pianist and composer active in the 1950s and 1960s. He is most famous for his collaborations with Miles Davis, Art Farmer, Donald Byrd, and John Coltrane. His albums, including Cool Struttin’ (1958), Leapin’ and Lopin’ (1958), and Blues in the Night (1961), are considered some of the finest examples of hard bop.
Notable songs include “Blue Minor”, “Cool Struttin’”, “Leapin’ and Lopin’”, “My Conception”, and “Dial S for Sonny”. Clark’s influence can be heard in later jazz musicians such as Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea.
An interesting fact about Sonny Clark is that he was the first jazz musician to record with the Fender Rhodes electric piano. He recorded the classic tune “Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise” with the instrument in 1965.
